So check this out. We just moved the site from a yahoo host to some
other company. That's the reason it was down for a couple days, which
everyone who reads this probably already knows, being as it is there's
two of you. Snezhok, he's the webmaster/russian translator guy, sends me
this email that says, in effect, that the site should be down for
another week or so. I'm like, well shit, because screwing around on the
site is pretty fun.

Thing is, I noticed earlier that parts of the site were still up and
running. The main page, and the directory I use were there, though none
of my files or pages were up. I shot him a msg asking about this(in
light of the week of planned downtime, remember).

He tells me, Nah, dude. Nothing's up at all.

Mia: Um, yeah stuff is. The main page is.

Snezhok: No, it isn't.

Mia: (Clicking on my browser) Yes, it is.

Snezhok:(also clicking on his browser) No, it isn't.

Clearly, we had upon us a conundrum.

Snezhok: You're probably just running off a cached copy of the website.
Clear your cache, refresh, etc, and it should give you the under
construction page.

Now, the thing is, I had seen that page before. I also know that it
disappeared late last evening. Still, the second you refuse to do the
idiot checks is the second you can be sure they'll fix your problem, so
I go through the process. Clear history, etc. BTW: By this point I'm
pretty curious about this and have half an hour to kill. I go through
all that stuff, and I keep on getting the main page.

M: Dude, I'm serious. It's still there. Maybe I'm right, you're wrong.
Ever think of that Mr. Smarty Pants? (Yes, I called him that.)

S: No, dude. You're mistaken. I know this shit. I'm the computer guy.
I've spoken to tech support. I'm checking it right now on two different
computers. I know all. You're wrong!

Two things you need to know. First, me and Snezhok have a strong
friendly rivalry. We like to compete. Second, he knows a lot more about
computers than I do. A lot. He created the graphics, and made the
webpage templates, which by and large I've just modified and tried to
figure out. He does all this crap for a living. Third(yes, I know.
Shaddup) I talk a lot of shit, and have a tendency to fight battles when
I'm wrong out of sheer belligerence. Point being, looking at things from
his end, he's probably right. Still, I'm not a complete newbie, and
whether or not a page has been updated isn't a quesiton which requires a
lot of technical expertise to answer. So we make sure that we're arguing
over the same thing(whether or not the DFP.com main homepage is there or
not). Question crystalized, I realize I've got to go, so we lay the
matter to rest.

Snezhok calls tech support for the host company. Turns out the website
was converting over as we spoke, and I just happened to be in a place
that updated a bit earlier. The TS guy he was speaking to earlier, who
had told him the one week thing, had been totally talking out his ass.

S: Oh. Huh. Imagine that. Mia(email), this is what's what, blah blah
blah. You were right after all.

Very mature, eh? Naturally I responded in an equally mature manner.

Of course not.

Snezhok's phone: Ring, Ring

S: Hello?

M:o/~I AM THE CHAMPION, MY FRIEND! And I'll keep on being right till the
end! o/~ Oooh~ Suck it!

S: Oh, lord.

I don't know which pained him worse. My immaturity, the gloating, the
fact that he was actually wrong(something that admittadly rarely happens
with computers), or my singing. I'm a strong believer in making up for a
lack of talent with volume. It was probably the singing.

Ultimate point of this story: I have angered the webmaster, so be
careful. Check each link carefully, for he might rewrite my links to all
point to www.meatspin.com
